Nontechnical skills assessment in acute care trauma simulations: a mixed methods approach using eye tracking and behavioral marker systems.
This study employed a mixed methods approach to assess the relationship between trauma team leaders' objective gaze patterns and subjective expert nontechnical skills (NTS) ratings during patient care simulations. Nine trauma teams from first-year post-graduate general surgery and emergency medicine residents were recruited to participate in 1 of 2 trauma simulations. The results indicated that, when compared to other NTS domains, trauma teams scored relatively poorly on communication. There were also significant differences in trauma team leaders' gaze metrics between teammates and the patient. The authors concluded that their results provided several objective insights into trauma team leaders' NTS behaviors during patient care simulations, which may provide more comprehensive understanding of NTS behaviors and can be leveraged to guide NTS training of trauma physicians in the future.

Simulation-based team leadership training improves team leadership during actual trauma resuscitations: a randomized controlled trial.
This study鈥檚 objective was to assess the clinical impact of simulation-based leadership training on team leadership and patient care during trauma resuscitations. A total of 79 second- and third-year residents at the Harborview Medical Center (a level 1 trauma center) were randomized and 360 resuscitations were analyzed. Participant-led actual trauma resuscitations were video recorded and then coded for leadership behaviors and patient care. Then the residents were randomized to a 4-hour simulation-based leadership training (intervention) or standard orientation (control) condition. The leadership behaviors were then scored pre- and post-training. There was a significant difference in post-training leadership behaviors between the intervention and control conditions.

Trauma training: competencies, initiatives, and resources.
Traumatic stress is currently not a required component of the standard curricula in graduate-level education in clinical and counseling psychology. However, due to the high prevalence of trauma and its potentially deleterious physical and mental health effects in the general and clinical populations, it is imperative that psychology graduate students and practitioners understand the relevance of trauma in their clients' lives and its impact in clinical research. This paper discusses competencies, initiatives and resources related to trauma training.

Simulation and the diagnostic process: a pilot study of trauma and rapid response teams.
Simulation can be used to recreate conditions that engage teams in the diagnostic process. In contrast to most instruction about diagnostic error, teams learn through realistic experiences and receive timely feedback about their decision-making skills. The purpose of this study was to assess how trauma teams (TrT) and pediatric rapid response teams (RRT) managed scenarios that included a diagnostic error.

A consensus statement on trauma mental health: the New Haven Competency Conference process and major findings.
The purpose of this article was to state the need for a comprehensive model of trauma-focused, empirically informed competencies for psychiatrists, and describe the work resulting from the New Haven Competencies consensus conference. The 60 participating experts outlined 5 broad foundational and functional competencies in the areas of trauma-focused and trauma-informed scientific knowledge, psychosocial assessment, psychosocial interventions, professionalism, and relational and systems. Eight cross-cutting competencies were voted into the resulting consensus statement.
