Section: Evidence-Based Infection Prevention
The use of transmission-based precautions and contact isolation precautions is a widely recommended practice to interrupt transmission of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other pathogens. Correct utilization of such precautions can help to prevent contamination and transmission to surgical and hospitalized patients, as well as to staff and the environment.
This section discusses evidence for and implementation of contact isolation precautions for patients known to be colonized or infected with MRSA in the perioperative environment.
